RENAMING OF STATE VETERINARY POLYCLINIC TO STATE VETERINARY HOSPITAL
The livestock sector took a huge turn following the formation of the present Government where a significant improvement in the delivery of veterinary health services at the farmers' doorsteps has been achieved by way of strengthening of manpower, modernization of state-level veterinary institutions, provision of funds and massive preventive measures & surveillance programs. Since the formation of the Government, priority has been given to the creation of the required infrastructure for proper preventive and curative measures for prevention and containment of animal diseases in the state keeping conformity with the development in the animal resources sector such as strengthening of State Veterinary Polyclinic. Thus, in pursuit of improving animal healthcare services, and adapting to the growing demand in terms of modern scientific intervention, the latest animal disease management systems, and in consonance with the existing statute and overall animal welfare and benefit of the farmers and pet owners, the State Government has recently upgraded the existing State Veterinary Polyclinic under the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department located at Deorali, Gangtok to the status of the “State Veterinary Hospital-cum-Referral Centre (SVH-RC)” on the sideline of Sikkim’s Glorious 50 Years of Statehood.
This upgrade is undertaken to enhance the infrastructure, introduce specialized services, and provide referral support to other veterinary institutions across the state. The new hospital shall now be the Apex State-Level Veterinary Referral Centre of all the subsidiary veterinary intuitions of the state and from now on it will assist all the subordinate veterinary institutions in all the technical matters relating to animal health particularly updating on diseases by analyzing the disease profile data of the animal patients received from the other veterinary institutions in coordination with the State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. It will also assist in various preventive and therapeutic protocols for controlling and managing infectious, contagious, and zoonotic animal diseases.
